3 GB of RAM will almost certainly apply to Vista users where Vista is very memory hungry....2GB should be more than enough for XP.

How well does X3R run on that system ?

bare in mind, that the gfx card is onyl a budget card and is several generations old, so you cant really expect it to run games in full graphics mode

Bit of a random thread to post that in Apollo... you tried the Off Topic forum? :)

EDIT: unknown, I have the same processor and the same amount of RAM, just I have an 8800GT and X3 works fine here. Obviously, as the others have said, you'll probably need to lower your graphics a bit. :)

If you want to discuss such topics, please feel free to do so in the Off Topic Forum, not here. Thanks.

And again, off topic forum only.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.

as a side note... I never really understood whole Gold vs Not Gold terminology... Platinum or any other kind of metal edition of games

but it does seem like a good thing :)

Can't be bothered to read all the pages. But I just wanted to say that I just preordered from the Egosoft shop :D

Bring it on!

Now maybe I should be getting me my first HQ in X3R before it arrives...

In videogaming, Gold (aka Gold Master) status actually refers to the game code being finalized for mass production. That is to say, once a game has gone gold the code is sent to the publishers for reproduction. So it's only a matter of time until enough games are produced to show up in stores. That's why final release dates are not set until a game has reached Gold.

Platinum, GOTY and other terms are just marketing; they're usually used for retail versions of the game that include expansions and patches.

its back in the day when a gold master, was litterly made from a Gold Disc.

the name just stuck.

platinum game edition is something completly different and usually refering to a budget release of the game.

whereas going Gold is when the game is finished and is sent to the publisher ready for release. Once a game is Gold, no more changes can be made and the shipped version will be the same as the gold master

so the Gold retail version of the game is definetly not the same as the very first retail version, which for example, didnt happen to be "gold" ?

Its because the gold disc could not be destroyed by natural elements or employee stupidity, it was a way to archive the prototype for the just in case scenario. The trend begun in the music industry with the old vinyl discs.

But with new techniques and technology that expensive trend was abandoned.

No the gold version term is mainly used when they bundle the original game with the expansion(s).
