Part 6

“Erica, can you come in, please?”
Seconds later the door slid opened and Erica walked in smiling.
“They are going through Paranid space” she said to the unasked question.
Renee leaned back in the new chair she had just installed.
“What are they planning?” she asked pushing the button for the table to come up.
Erica sat on the table “Looks like they’ve stripped out their own ship to shield and arm two Busters”
She clicked her nails together watching her boss’s face.
“They’ll try to get a transporter and bring back the shields and weapons for the other ships”
This drew no response from Renee. The lack of response and the blank face was making her uneasy working for Renee Moore had its advantages but also it could have dangerous disadvantages.
“Want me to stop them?” she asked.
Renee looked up at her and smiled “No, the delay should be enough for our purposes”
“And if it isn’t?”
Another smile “we’ll have to do something about it if it isn’t but I suspect it will take them a while to get the equipment they need together fly it back to Paranid space then get to Argon Prime”
And they could always throw some blocks in the way Erica thought such as denial of entry into Argon space or even inspection of the ships to make sure they are not carrying jump trackers etc.
“Let me know when you need me, Erica” She smiled hopping off the desk.
“Another date?”
“Yes, one of the flight sergeants from the equipment dock” Erica was known throughout the sector for liking young good looking men.
“Cute?” her boss asked already knew the answer.
“Needs a bit of polish on the rough bits but he’s certainly a head turner” she said on her way out of the door.

They had decided to fly one kilometer apart the front man on auto-pilot so they could take turns in sleeping every four hours, the rear keeping watch. There wasn’t a problem of either pilot falling asleep while flying guard as both pilots loved to fly in real time. SETA was to be left alone until they could get to safe sectors. But getting to safe sectors was the problem. They’d already passed through Priest Rings and Priest’s Pity. And are now coming up on the jump gate to the pirate sector Split Fire.
Bran yawned and clicked the intercom button to the other ship he still wasn’t sure if going through the pirate sectors to Light of Heart was such a good idea but then again going through Paranid space wasn’t really all that safe at anytime they could be stopped and arrested.
“At the jump gate, Fly” He heard a muffled grunt.
“FLY!” he shouted. Flicking the camera mode on and seeing his partner jerk out of sleep.
“Okay, am with you” he grumbled.
“We are coming up on the jump gate now!” his hands flicked to lockers and compartments shutting and locking them to make sure if they had a bumpy jump which sometimes happened then the contents wouldn’t fly out all over the cockpit.
“All secure?” Fly asked finally awake.
“Roger all secured” he replied.
“Come up with me, for tandem jump” Fly throttled back and Bran came up along side both Busters were to jump at the same time just in case they encountered trouble on the other side of the gate.
“Remember the plan” the plan was to contact the first pirate ship on the other side and explain roughly what they were doing. Missing out a few major details, like they were going to supply Argon ships with shields and weapons and fly those ships to Argon Prime. Under the pretence of buying shields and weapons to sell to the Paranid they want to try to arrange an escort through Pirate space and into the Argon sector of Aladna Hill.
“1, 2,3,4,5 JUMP!” Bran slammed the throttle to the firewall and closed his eyes against the flash of the gate.

“So what is Renee planning?” the young man asked.
Erica looked at him and sighed if only you knew how much I hate you.
“She’s still trying to delay those two Argon pilots from reaching Argon Prime”
He stroked her hand “Has she told you why?”
“No, I’m just a secretary but it is a puzzle they are trying to supply the Argon marines with ships and Renee is delaying them, I really don’t understand it” she gripped his hand tighter and looked deep into his green eyes. Do you feel anything for me? Or are you just using me to get information?
“You are more than just a secretary my love” he smiled at her and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. As usual her heart fluttered and she thought about the last time they had made love.
“When can we get time together again?” she asked.
“Soon baby, try to find out what she is up to” stroking her face gently.
“Who do you work for?” she’d asked the same question many times since they had met.
“I told you that I work for an agency watchdog that likes to know what the other agencies are doing” his eyes had a cold stern look in them that she had got to know well recently it came especially when he didn’t like a question or had seen her talking to another man.
“But why are you interested in Terracorp?” she let his hand go. Maybe without the contact he would be less secure.
“Because Terracorp has always been its own government and that makes certain people in power nervous. I am not an enemy spy I really am working for the Argon government”
She still wasn’t convinced and he knew that she wasn’t convinced but so long as she kept giving him information he wasn’t bothered and she knew that. She looked at him with a gooey look on her face.
“I have to go” he said. It was always the same he had to go, he had to be somewhere except when she had good information then he would be loving and caring and affectionate. If he was a spy he wasn’t a very good one. She watched him walk away as causally as he could act, if he was a government worker then he was lucky to have his job she could sell him energy cells at double the price if she wanted to but her instructions were to keep him sweet and give him snippets of information. She smiled to herself on the other hand he was a great lover.

Nice one. Will be interesting to see how the two of them fare through the Pirate sectors. Don't think it'll be too easy but at least Renee isn't giving them any trouble for the moment. And Erica is playing her new flame? But for whom does she do it? It didn't appear as though Renee knew about it.
