Music
The music is quite good and well suited to the theme, don't you think? After I had my pc upgraded recently I put the sounds back on for that extra experience. I quite like the music in Kingdom End and Family Pride. The teladi and argon sectors seem to lack any higher pitch tunes, they sound bland. Last night after finishing what I could write up for my dissertation, I popped the game on and put the sounds on, I can maintain a decent fps even in sectors heavily infested with asteroids, and I was hooked. Can't wait to have another go on it tonight and put the music on. Which sectors have your favourite tracks in it?
Time to get SPACED OUT!

Yes I like the music apart from the piano music after an "accident".
What's it called?
Usually I call it:
"Where'd that flaming* missile come from?"
"Nonononono"
"Why'd you crash into me you illegitimate person*?
* Edited because the young and/or easily offended visit this site.

If the thread I read somewhere on this forum was correct;
Turning the music volume down does not keep it from playing. Therefore you cannot improve performance by turning the volume off.
Seems exceedingly stupid to program a game like that, and I've never owned a game that did not allow you to turn the music off in such a way as to get a performance improvement - so maybe what I read was incorrect?

The performance impact from music playback is going to be less than 1% unless you have a bare-minimum spec computer. They're just mp3s; decoding and playing a mp3 takes very little cpu time. I think the only games where turning the music off made any real difference were ones that had dynamic music systems.Cr4Fty wrote:If the thread I read somewhere on this forum was correct;

I like much of the music, but some of the tracks are a bit bare. They also get repetitive, especially some of the short ones like #31 (Moo Kye's Revenge), #32 (Power Circle), and #37 (New Income, Family Tkr). If you're hanging in a single sector for any length of time it gets annoying.
My solution was to append other music to the end of the standard tracks with mp3 DirectCut. You do have to re-encode either the original or the new music to be the same bitrate / khz. I got most of my new music from Soulseek Records, an electronic music collective that has a lot of great stuff. If you look around there are some good ambient & down tempo electronica tracks that fit in really well with X3's mood.
So now my tracks 19-40 (the normal sector music) total 3 hours 20 minutes instead of 1:43, almost double. And oh yeah, in case you're wondering, I left "Peace 2" (aka Kingdom End) the heck alone.

You really have to be kidding right. ??
Using this program for this type of game renders files so darn huge its no wonder folder sizes get so large in size.
Use something like this for better control and quality of music sound and size.
