LV's Ship Capture Challenge

A little save game challenge I made as I was bored :)

A little competion i devised for all you xers as I couldn't get my head around why so many of you say you can't cap ships :?

On loading the save you will be in an empty sector and after a few seconds a player equipment dock will spawn holding every type of M3 there is and the dock will allow you to add whatever weapon/missile combo you desire

Once you dock and pick and equip your ship just leave the station and the challenge will commence.

You have 15 minutes to capture as many ships as you can :)

There will be 3 beacons in the sector

1. The Mission Timer which on hitting 0 or being destroyed will stop the challenge.

2. The Kill Counter (displayes how many ships you have killed)

3. The Cap Counter (displays ships you have capped)

On finishing the test you will be hailed with your stats

You have 1 unit of salvage insurance which you can use to save your game + stats if you want to brag.

The Script Editor is not enabled so you can't cheat!

install instructions

open the zip file and extract the 15.sav to your x3 save directory my docs/egosoft if yu already have a 15.sav rename it so this one does not overwrite it.

then extract the 5 scripts to your x3 scripts directory.

just load the game to run it

uninstall

delete the save and the 5 scripts and all will be gone.

Errr... Installed everything correctly, loaded the savegame but it doesn't seem to work.

I spawn in Unknown Sector near Patriach's Retreat, but I'm in a spacesuit. I check the logs, and all interesting info i find is that my "Khaak Fighter" has been destroyed. And after 1-2 minutes of waiting in my spacesuit no equipement dock is spawning :S

Wrong savegame in your archive ? Or did i miss something ?

This is genius :o

Fun and clever mini game with a point. As expected from my experience I had some captures, and I always go for the kill.

Used Kha'ak Fighter with 3xBKE
31 ships destroyed
5 captures
16 percentage

Will play some more with it as this is very entertaining.

Ego should be paying you to sign all the decent scripts around and put together a script release pack for those who dont like using the script editor.

Readily available combat, easy access to M3 ships, a challenge of skill... Wow LV, I have a feeling this contest of yours is going to be quiet popular.

Would love to try your nice little game, but it just doesn't seem to
work.

Twice I was killed by spaceflies while waiting for the dock to appear;
A geniunely new experience :o

But I just can't get in the ship.

I get the 'Enter Ship E' option, which then says 'Are you sure you want to
eject? yes/no'. Whatever I choose, I don't end up in the ship.

I've tried commanding the ship to idle then standby, but when I undock
the ship disappears with the dock?

The force is clearly not strong with me today.


EDIT: Humblest apologies. I was being an idiot. It's late now so will
attempt it tomorrow.

Yeepee 7 captures out of 12 ships :)

(percentage is a bit strange, i guess it's because of the lack of math functions in the script engine)

I used a Nova with
- 2 Ion Distruptors
- 3 Alpha PAC

Good old method of X2 capping.
1/ Destroy the shields with IDs
2/ Switch to aPAC
3/ Shoot to remove 5-10% of hull
4/ Wait for the shield to go up a little (about 10%)
5/ Repeat to 3 until ship capped or destroyed

Works like a charm but it's a slow method.


I made another test with a Susanowa :
- 3 Beta IRE
- 3 Alpha PAC

I used the same method as before, but killing the shields with PACs and attacking the hull with IRE. I dunno why, but not a single ship (out of 14) bailed when i was using the Beta IRE. :(


My last go was with the same Susanowa, but this time using
- 4 Alpha PAC
- 4 Beta PAC

Using an more agressive method. If the ship is a M3, I shoot it with full weapons and three to five times out of ten, they bail very quickly. And if the ship is smaller, same method using only the 4 aPAC.

I captured about 6 ships out of 18.

Anyway, it was quite funny, i'll probably have another go with more exotic weapon loadouts.

@The Black Vegetable : lol I had the same 'issue' with the spacflies :)

Dock in the station with your space suit (btw, the seta ext. is installed as soon as the dock spawn) then :

To switch ships : Go on the personal menu / change ship.
To equip the ship : Go in the Station menu / Parameters.

Had a quick go now, the challenge works well.

Took out a Xenon L with PBE's (2 of each)

Started well: 5 out of 7, but then it all went wrong and ended up on 6 out of 17!!! - although the report gave me a generous 50% :D (U might wanna look at that abit!)

Shows how random it really is, as I was pretty much doing the same thing throughout. It pretty slow going in the Xenon L as it needs alot of time to recharge its lasers. I only got to 17 because of some easy ships appearing, eg. a disco...

Is the sequence random or is there a set order for the ships?
And do the pilots attributes change so that they get harder to capture?

It had to be the Mamba, as I refuse to soil my hands with
lesser ships.

I fitted 4 each of AHEPT and BPACs.

Um.... 19 killed and er 1 captured.

I apologise for my failure my lord. It's just that when the worthless
Rebel scum fire on me, I have to wipe them out. You see the red mist
comes down and .............. where's my anger therapist.

Saw the title and thought it might be another challenge like the X2 super Mamba one :(

Still a great idea though so I'll try and have a shot over the next few days (possibly tomorrow!)

Bloody good fun. Best result was around 30-40% using the X shuttle ;)

Will be giving it another shot later on if I get a chance.

And a word of warning for anyone trying this. Once the pilot ejects, dont think its safe to kill either it or the ship. If you kill the pilot it adds one to your kills, if you kill the ship you dont get the capture. You need to wait until the script kills them :)

Not thatI go round shooting defenseless pilots or anything :lol:
