meshes

Post by Tritous » Sun, 22. Jan 06, 02:05

if you are into meshes then http://www.startrekaustralia.com/ is the best place I think. there are fighters indeed, you just never saw them much in the series or films. still, here are a lot of pics and meshes and if I get the concept right then the meshes will give you an accurate 3d model to work from that can be rendered and lit in any direction.

anyway, ones I think that have particular promise:
http://www.startrekaustralia.com/startr ... /index.htm
Federation "Stinger" class fighter. very split in nature: not fabulous on defence but fast and packs a punch. potential m3?

http://www.startrekaustralia.com/startr ... /index.htm
Federation "Xenon" Class...Woot? supposedly a heavy fighter with possible stealth ability and serious hull power

http://www.startrekaustralia.com/startr ... /index.htm
Federation "Thunder" class escourt aka warship. more like an m6. cruiser with lots of firepower.

http://www.startrekaustralia.com/startr ... /index.htm
Romulan "Shalimar" Class fighter. Looks a bit like the existing generic m3 design though

[http://www.startrekaustralia.com/startr ... /index.htm]
Romulan Cruiser. Would make a nice subclass between M6 and M2.

http://www.startrekaustralia.com/startr ... /index.htm
A varient Jem'Hadar fighter.

And of course something big and klingon. a nice destroyer :P

and here are a few more worth noting, very nice ones some. I picked ones that were less Treklike and were just plain nice ships. Pity there are some great ones that haven't got meshes...I bet it's near impossible to make a model off just a couple of pics so I've only posted ones with meshes for you

I hope these provide a little inspiration and get rid of the illusion that trekkies are peaceful. when negotiations fail it's all about the biggest and baddest destroyers, backed up with the fastest and most overgunned possible fighters. So most of the large trek ships are destroyers or carriers, and some medium sized science vessles.

Tritous,

Many thanks for the links :D

I'm finishing off the non-script elements for the 1st release, and once it is out and stable I will be re-setting priorities on which ships to do next. I'll definitely be considering some of those St shops as possible early additions.

As a quick progress update: I just finished adding external docking to all standard Egosoft supplied M6, M2, M1, and TL ships. The M6 can dock anything up to an M3, while the M1, M2, and TL can handle anything up to the M6, TP, and PS class.

well if you ever need ideas I have no scripting or modding skills on here, but minor programming in C and some various other games. My real skill is in ideas, working out balances for things, ideas on what should be what, and conceptual design. if you know UML I can easily put together design concepts in that, or in any other graphical or textual format you are familiar with if you want me to explain things in any particular way.

if you've read my comments on that faster than light travel debate you'll get an idea on what my conceptual abilities are. I haven't had the time recently but used to play and run several ST PBeM RPGs. each one I was in I had in my head an entire universe with people, interactions and emotions, the lot. several were on different parts of the same timeline and I managed to maintain timeline coherance between them without anyone knowing but me lol. so if you need ideas of any level of complexity I can do anything from totally inventing new ship types for you (i've done that before, even though I'm not much of an artist) to explaining in full scientific manner the workings of various kinds of engine or gun lol.

not to mention, I'm the world's greatest maker of toasted sandwiches :P

I would like to know how that mistake happened. either it's a wierd keyboard where the T isn't over 6 inches away from the P :P, or DeadlyDa has had a few too many. few too many of what I'll leave you to teasingly speculate on.

Of course Deadly was correct (as ever), there is a PS class, all the ships he has added on to Egosoft's.....

Keep on modding and making us happy,
