For mission 2, you neglected to remind players to

accelerate during the space suit portion. I've only managed to get to this portion once, and failed because I was still around 500m out when time ran out. I'd turned to the ship immediately, but apparently wasn't moving fast enough - something that I wasn't even aware of until it was too late to do anything about it.

Hey can anyone help me? I'm stuck in mission 3
Thanks
Also, after i faught off those pirates, my ship got demaged. How can i repair it? I went to a couple of stations, but they all sell the same stuff, and can't seem to repair my ship.

I entered Farnhams legend, killed the fighters, etc. Now the gig ship jumped and i ahd to follow it. I already had some energy cells (50) but i'm not sure that's enough. I press shift+j and a screen comes up. But waht am i supposed to do now?

After the ship's jumped, wait around a minute (i usually mop up the last fighter), and you'll definately get an impatient message from Saya trying to hurry you up. The message that then appears in your messages will tell you where to go, otherwise I think that it appears on a "list" (ie hit shift J and you'll get a screen askin whether to choose sector, or there will be a name waiting... which is the one ).
Land, and then select the "trade with station" - right at the top you will see your ships name, percentage of hull (as a red bar). Select that and you can use the arrow key to move it to 100% from whatever damage you've sustained. The cost (value to the right) is PER unit of repairs... so if it says 1,000 roughly, and you've got 87 hull - then it's going to cost 13,000 to repair your ship
It maybe exceedingly expensive, but at certain amounts of damage your ship loses speed... a sure killer. If you cannot afford full repairs, repair to around 90% of so, and then maybe think about getting an extra shield (if it's not already maxed out). If it is maxed out, upgrade speeds etc, or start using strafe during combat
I played X2(not far though, never could do more than a few trade runs at a time. The starting pase is so slow), but i was baffled at how to pick up that patrol. In the end i flew to cloudbase south west WITHOUT the guys i was supposed to escort, thinking they'd follow automatically. Thanks for clearing up how it works!
Thank God for this and bless thee! b4 i read this i thought:
This thing is so damn complicated to learn just by one's own, where the hell, for instance, is the guy you are suppoesd to find in Mission 2?? It says he is docked in some place, but does not say what system or anything. Also, how does stocking up on energy cells help me catch anybody? And finally, how do you use afterburner? I hit Tab and nothing happens, or it brings me to full speed that I get anyway. It says it is installed in the trading thing in my ship.

Aye, I got thrown in the deepend with X2... and I put the game down for a couple of months due to the slow start (for new players that is). Picked it up again later, and immediately got "on the ball" so to speak, registered here and regretted missing months of play.
Didn't forget my initial fustration, hence why I wrote these. Glad it's useful

Great write up.
I struggled with mission 2 all yesterday and decided to come looking in the forums in the hope the answer lay within. Armed with this information I can see two things happening next time I play
1) I'll complete mission 2
2) I'll keep my joystick in its box and try just using the mouse and keyboard.

When I first encountered The Hole, I had no idea where I needed to go.
Then after a few minutes of wandering around the place lost, I finally took notice of the Navigation Buoys.
When you fly towards on of these, the next one will appear in your sector map. So to get from the West Gate to the South Gate, just follow the buoys.
